Keogh returns to Colorado after a string of slumps

According to her Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld team, American Kaitie Keough abandoned her recent cyclocross campaign in Europe early and returned home to Colorado after a lackluster performance.

"After struggling to find the consistent high level of form that @kaitiekeough has had in the past, she has decided to return to the US as of December 26," the team wrote in an Instragram update.

"While at home in Colorado, Kaitie will undergo various tests and training adjustments. Her return to racing is undecided at this time."

The 27-year-old first made the UCI World Cup podium in 2015, and her results peaked in 2017 when she finished second in two UCI World Cup races and recorded multiple top-10 finishes. In 2018, her results slowed a bit, but Keogh had some season-long victories and finished in the top 10 in the UCI Word Cup series.

Although Keogh has failed to win so far this season, she appeared to be improving in November, finishing fifth in the Koppenberg Cross, fourth in the Superprestige Rudelfourde, and eighth in the Tabor World Cup. [From there, however, his results went downhill, finishing 13th in the Flandrien Cross and 19th in the Coquide World Cup. He returned to the U.S. to challenge 15-time national champion Katie Compton, but finished a disappointing fifth in a race won by 22-year-old Clara Honsinger.

Back in Europe, he ended up retiring from the Namur World Cup on December 22, and Keogh decided to rest up in time for the UCI Cyclocross World Championships in early February.

Cannondale Cyclocross Worlds also announced that under-23 U.S. champion Katie Krause dislocated her shoulder in a crash in Namur but has already resumed light road training. According to the team, Krause is expected to be out of the lineup "for a short period of time."
