Alberto Contador hospitalized in Colombia for suspected food poisoning.

Alberto Contador was admitted to a hospital in Bogota with suspected food poisoning after arriving in Colombia for the Giro de Ligo organized by Rigoberto Uran (EF Education First). The Spaniard was unable to run the Giro de Ligo as planned, and he filmed an instructional video (opens in new tab) for the event's Instagram account from his hospital bed.

"I am very disappointed not to be able to participate in the Giro de Rigo," Contador said. 'I've been training with a lot of enthusiasm, but while I was traveling here I had a high fever and got sick.'

Contador hopes to recover sufficiently for the rest of his stay in Colombia and vowed to return to the event in 2020. Contador said, "I don't intend to miss next year."

According to the Giro de Ligo organization, Contador will spend 48 hours in a Bogota hospital to recover from his illness. Contador complained of high fever and gastroenteritis.

Uran will miss the second round of the Giro de Giro as he is still recovering from a major crash that forced him to abandon the Vuelta a EspaƱa. Uran, who suffered a fractured scapula and collarbone, broken ribs, and a punctured lung, will participate in the leisure event in a specially modified vehicle.

Tour de France winners Egan Bernal (Team Ineos), Esteban Chavez (Mitchelton Scott), Ivan Basso, and Luis Herrera will be among the guests at this sporting event in the Kindio province.
