Mathieu van der Poel postpones return to cyclocross

Mathieu van der Pol's (Corendon-Circus) cyclocross season has been postponed, with the 24-year-old set to start his campaign at the Telenet Superprestige Ruddervoorde race on November 3. 2019 The winner of the Amstel Gold Race was originally scheduled to participate in the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden on October 22.

Van der Pol, who has combined many disciplines this year, has already changed his end-of-season plans once: in early October, he decided to miss the Olympic test event for mountain biking in Tokyo. Van der Pol raced 31 days on the road in 2019. Along with his victory in the Amstel Gold Race, he enjoyed a stellar second half of the campaign that included a win in the Arctic Race in Norway, three stage wins and the overall win at the 2019 Tour of Britain, and other impressive performances.

He was one of the leading contenders in the men's elite road race at the UCI Road World Championships in September, but despite a crucial break in the final circuit, finished 43rd in Yorkshire.
