Hodeg Suffers Multiple Fractures in Tour de Euro-Metropole Crash

Alvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck-Quick Step) was taken to the hospital after suffering multiple fractures in a crash in the last kilometer of Saturday's Tour de Euro-Metropole.

Doctors confirmed that Hodeg suffered a fractured left forearm, a fractured right shoulder, and two broken ribs.

Hodeg will need shoulder surgery on Sunday in Belgium. He will also continue to be monitored for signs of concussion overnight, but is stable and comfortable, according to a statement from Deceuninck-QuickStep.

Hodeg, who won the Munsterland Giro earlier this week, rode into the Tour de Euro-Metropole as the favorite to win.

He was in a great sprint position in the last kilometer of the Tour de Eurometropole when he was caught by a barrier foot on the final corner and crashed heavily. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors assessed his injuries.

Piet Aregart (Sport Vlaanderen Valoise) won the race, with Hodeg's teammate Florian Seneschal finishing second.

Deceuninck-QuickStep announced Sunday afternoon that Hodeg's left shoulder surgery was successful.
