Ewan wins 10th of the season in Brussels

Caleb Yuan won his 10th Brussels Cycling Classic on Saturday in a close race, finishing second to Elia Viviani in Hamburg at the end of August, and after a great lead-out by teammate Lot Soudal, Pascal Ach. He finished ahead of Carman (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Jasper Philipsen (UAE Team Emirates). It was Ewan's first victory since winning three stages at the Tour de France in July.

"I am very happy with my victory in my first participation in this race," Ewan said in a press release issued by the team. [To be honest, I didn't feel good today and I was struggling on the climbs. But once the adrenaline kicked in, things went well. It was a pretty stressful day and with the rain and the narrow roads, it was a very difficult race. There was a lot of stress in the group. Those things made what would normally be an easier race more difficult. Luckily, the team did a great job.

A seven-man breakaway formed early in the race and was chased by a sprinter team that included Lotto Soudal. In the technically demanding finale, the race split several times and Ewan escaped with teammate Nicolas Maes. The Belgians led Ewan to the finale before the Australians began their sprint. The race was a close one, with several sprinters crossing the finish line within inches of each other, but Ewan did just enough to win the race.

"In the end it was a real struggle to get to the finish, especially since the finish was slightly uphill and headwindy. But I think I timed my sprint very well. I don't know if I was the strongest sprinter today, but I think I timed it the best I could, and luckily I still had a little extra energy left to win."

Euan's debut season at Lotto Soudal was a huge success, missing out on the Tour Down Under in January but winning the UAE Tour a month later. He followed that up with two wins at the Tour of Turkey, two at the Giro d'Italia, one at the ZLM Tour, and three at the Tour de France, including the final day in Paris.
