Lambie Sets New Individual Pursuit World Record

American Ashton Lambie set a new UCI world record in the individual pursuit on Friday at the 2019 Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Cochabomba, Bolivia.

"It's a great feeling to shorten the record a little bit," said the UCI World Champion. I'm looking forward to tonight's final and representing the Stars and Stripes."

Lambie was part of the Team Pursuit team of Eric Young, Daniel Holloway, and John Croom, which set a new American record of 3:52.747 and won the silver medal behind the Canadian team with a new world record.

Lambie broke the previous world record exactly one year earlier at the Pan American Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

He competed at the 2017 U.S. National Championships in Los Angeles, where he started on the track after clocking 4:29 in the individual pursuit.

USA Cycling selected him to race in individual and team Pursuit at a series of international competitions during the 2017-2018 track season: the World Cup, Pan American Championships, and World Championships.

"Ashton has continued to impress since exploding onto the scene in 2017," said Scott Schnitzspahn, USA Cycling's vice president of elite track and field.

"His tenacity, athleticism, and hard work have continually raised the bar for our entire men's endurance track program. We look forward to continuing this trajectory into 2020."

The Pan American Championships are held annually for member nations of the Pan American Cycling Federation.
