The Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross in Falmouth, Massachusetts, is the newest addition to the event.

"We are pleased to announce the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross as the host organization for the 2022 Pan American Cyclocross Championships," said Interim Pan American Cycling Federation (COPACI) Cross Commission President Josh Peacock, interim president of the Pan American Cycling Federation (COPACI) Cross Commission, said in a statement Friday. He also serves as director of marketing and events for Cycling Canada.

"Following the announcement of the cancellation of the originally scheduled Costa Rica event, the organization behind the event, working closely with USA Cycling, quickly responded and adapted. Given the event's reputation and calendar positioning, collaboration with Really Rad was an easy choice.

The original championship was scheduled for November 5-6 in San Jose, Costa Rica; on October 4, organizers announced that the loss of the host venue, Parque Viva, and subsequent difficulties in finding a replacement venue were the reasons for canceling this multi-national event.

Only a week ago, Peacock stated that he and the UCI were informed of the cancellation and that "we are currently looking into multiple avenues to find a replacement event/venue, but until we do our due diligence with the local organizing committee in question, we cannot comment specifically on which venue is being considered. I cannot comment on that specifically."

Timing was an issue; COPACI looked at existing events that could add a championship to the schedule as a best-case scenario. Cycling Canada's only UCI-sanctioned event is the C2 Bear Crossing Grand Prix in Langford, British Columbia, on November 27, which will be held in conjunction with their national championships.

USA Cycling was contacted about several races on the Pro CX calendar and made a decision within days before the national championships in Hartford, Connecticut, December 6-11.

"We are honored to share the exciting news that this year, as part of the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross, the United States will host the Pan American Continental Championships in cyclocross," USA Cycling President and CEO Brendan Quirk said. USA Cycling is proud to have played a key role in securing this event and is excited to add another high-level cyclo-cross event to the United States."

The last Pan Am Championship was held in Garland, Texas, after being cancelled in 2020 due to a pandemic.

"Cyclocross in New England has a long history," said Adam Sykes, race director of the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross.

"In addition to being the final USCX race, we're excited to add the 2022 Pan American Cyclocross Championships to our race block.
