SD Works Signs Cyclocross Talent Marie Schreiber

Young cyclocross specialist Marie Schreiber has been undaunted in challenging the dominant Dutch riders in major races this season: four top-10 finishes at the UCI Cyclocross World Cup and a podium finish at Azencross in December, Luxembourg, who has won two C2 races in Germany, has signed a three-year contract with the SD Worx team.

The 19-year-old Schreiber will continue racing with the Tormans cyclocross team until the end of February, but joined the SD Worx training camp in Denia, Spain, this week.

"I was really surprised that Team SD Worx was interested," Schreiber said.

"It was a real surprise that Team SD Worx was interested," Schreiber said in the team's press release.

She admitted that she lacked road experience due to school and the COVID-19 pandemic. She said, "I have to think a little bit about which terrain I can do best this season. Cyclocross will be my main focus this season, though. I need a solid road season if I want to do well in winter cyclocross these days."

Schreiber has a cyclocross buddy in SD Worx. Hungarian champion Blanka Kata Vas is the only full-time cyclocross racer on the team, while fellow Luxembourger Christine Majerus has a long history in the discipline and Lorena Wiebes and Lotte Kopecky have participated in several races. She hoped that having Vives as a teammate would be a boost.

"With two of us, we can share our experiences well. Plus, we can join forces," Schreiber said. I'm surprised at how well I've done in the last few months. I am doing better than I thought I would. These performances in the field have given me confidence for the road season. After all, some of the girls I am competing with right now in cyclocross are doing well on the road."

Team manager Danny Stamm acknowledged Schreiber's talent for achieving such good results against an elite field at the age of 19.

"In my experience, good cyclocross riders usually do well on the road. We will see where her potential lies in the coming season. Given her physique, she appears at first glance to be a climber. We will carefully assess which races in the Ardennes Bloc and second tier are best suited for her."

With the addition of Schreiber, the 2023 SD Worx team now has 16 riders. She is the fifth newcomer to the team, along with Wiebes, Femke Marx, Barbara Guariski, and Misha Bredevold.
