Mikel Landa will be back in the Grand Tours next season with the goal of a good finish at the Vuelta a España.

The 34-year-old Basque climber, who finished fifth in the 2023 Vuelta and on the podium in the 2022 Giro d'Italia, will support teammate Remco Evenpoel in the Tour de France after signing with Sul-Quick Step in 2024.

However, Landa is already set to be the GC leader for Sûre-Quick Step in the 2024 Vuelta, and the Basque said he is confident he has a chance. He said, "I keep dreaming of winning a Grand Tour. It's getting harder and harder for me because with each passing year there are new rivals," Landa recently told Belgian news agency Sporza.

"But in the last few years I've been getting closer and closer to the last podium. So why is it no longer possible to win the last race?"

Landa explained that his role at the Tour is completely different, supporting Evenpoel in the mountain stages, and that "that is my job as a climber." However, when he was initially offered a transfer to the team by Bahrain Victorious, he did not jump at the chance.

"I wasn't convinced on the first call," Randa admits, "but on the second call, I was.

"Lemko told me he respected me and greatly appreciated my experience. He offered me a role that would motivate me to come to this team."

He is a champion. He knows exactly what he wants and is willing to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve it. I've only known my teammate for a short time, but I can already feel the high expectations for Lemko. And he puts a lot of pressure on himself as well."

As for whether Evenpoel can win the Tour, Landa (who has twice finished fourth overall in the race and was part of Chris Froome's support team when the two raced for Sky, winning in 2016) told Sporza. 'I don't think it's impossible. But I'm not going to put pressure on him yet."

"Lemko is racing the Tour for the first time. He has rivals (Tadej Pogachar and Jonas Vingegaard) who have won the Tour twice. I will try to get as close to them as possible and see how far I can go."

"We may not be as strong as Visma Lease-a-Bike or UAE Team Emirates. But Soudal-Quick Step has already won a Grand Tour in the [2022] Vuelta, and the team is even stronger."
